What an amazing camaraderie there is in rallying, as I found out on the recent Trackrod Rally.
On Friday afternoon, my Historic Cup colleague Peter Smith collared me because he wanted to run through the DVD and notes for Dalby 1 as we were tackling it in the dark and I’d never been in there. He wanted to show me a few places that, with his local knowledge, he thought we might come to grief on.
Then on Friday night in service, former World Rally champion Stig Blomqvist wandered over to have a look at my Mini and chat to me about driving them – utterly charming man.
After he retired he came over again to chat to me in service and asked how we were coping with the ruts.
On SS3 we picked up a puncture and Hugh Evans and Kevin Ellis, who’d had an off in their Triumph TR8 a few minutes earlier, without being asked, came straight to help us change the wheel, sort the belts out etc so very big thanks to them.
If you want your faith in people restored, go rallying.
