COLLARD CALLED UP TO HELP BMW’S DTM DEVELOPMENT
BRDC British Formula 3 Championship runner-up Ricky Collard will test a BMW DTM car at Jerez later this month.
One of this year’s Mclaren Autosport BRDC Award finalists, Collard will spend four days with BMW at the Spanish circuit at the end of the month and into December, and will test the car as part of the German marque’s development schedule ahead of the 2017 season.
BMW junior Collard, son of British Touring Car Championship driver Rob, said: “The test is going to be absolutely fantastic, and it’s a great opportunity to be able to test the BMW – I think my dad might be slightly jealous.
“The opportunity was based quite a bit on how I was performing in British F3. I had to do a little bit of nagging but it was definitely based on performance. I’ve also done some VLN stuff with BMW and as part of the junior programme I’ve been under fitness tests, mental tests, you name it.
“But they really have looked at every single aspect to make sure I’m well prepared. It’s going to cost them money to let this little English kid drive round in one of their cars, so they had to make sure I could do it.”
Collard has already driven a DTM car before, having handled a Mercedes C63 DTM at Silverstone last month as part of his assessment as a MABA finalist.
