MN is sad to report the death of Donegal Motor Club chairman Derek Mcmahon, who died last weekend at the age of 75.

Mcmahon, from Milford in County Donegal, was a hugely influential figure in motor racing as well as rallying.

He promoted and backed many drivers, including Derek Daly, into the rarefied world of F1. He was larger than life in every way. At home he was known as ‘The King of Donegal’ and did much, particularly through the Donegal Oil Company, to raise the profile of rallying in his beloved home county.

The stories involving his exploits over the years are the stuff of legend. He was truly one of a kind. Derek was predeceased by his wife Anne three years ago. To his three sons and two daughters, along with the wider family circle and all his friends, we extend our deepest sympathies and condolences.
