The 2013 National Hot Rod World Final winner John Christie says he could swap disciplines after racing a BRISCA F1 stock car for the first time at Birmingham Wheels last weekend.

The Northern Irishman was loaned Paul Hines’s car for the Gala Night meeting on Saturday and, despite having only tested the car in the wet and being ranked with the midfield blue-graded drivers, said he was blown away by the experience.

“I was learning all the time,” said Christie. “It was crazy. I was seventh in my heat and thought I was on the pace, but the final was another level again. I was quickly shuffled down the pack when all the [top-ranked] red graders came past. I was hit a couple of times too, which was a heck of an experience – I thought my brain was going to come out of my skull.”

Christie finished down the order after being lapped in the final, but says he is looking into a future in the formula. “I am trying to qualify for next year’s Hot Rod World Final in July. Once that campaign is out of the way, I will look ahead. I will certainly have a serious look at buying an F1 car,” he said.
