In Qatar, Gabriele Tarquini and Mehdi Bennani shared the spoils as the World Touring Car Championsh­ip season came to an end. In Lada’s final event in the championsh­ip, Tarquini got the better of Sebastien Loeb Racing driver Tom Chilton after a race on restart to clinch his second win of the season, while Bennani converted a first qualifying pole into victory in the main race. Four-time champion Yvan Muller bowed out of tin tops with fourthand sixth-place finishes… The Manfield circuit that hosts the New Zealand Grand Prix has been renamed after Chris Amon, following his death in August. The grand prix was twice won by Amon, in 1968 and ’69, when it was held at Pukekohe as part of the Tasman series. Manfield has held the race since 2008, and will be known as Manfield: Circuit Chris Amon… Sergio Sette Camara will step up to GP2 next season after agreeing a move to the MP Motorsport team. Camara, who has been part of the Red Bull junior programme this year, finished third in the Macau Grand Prix earlier this month in a one-off outing with Carlin, having contested the European series with Motopark. Oliver Rowland, who raced with MP in GP2 this season, is tipped to switch to the DAMS team for 2017… Blancpain GT driver Jules Szymkowiak was announced as the winner of the first Sean Edwards Trophy Young Driver award. The Dutchman Szymkowiak, 21, who raced a Mercedes AMG GT3 car in Blancpain’s stable of series, was selected as the winner of the award – which was awarded in memory of Edwards, who died while instructin­g in 2013, and designed to help the careers of young drivers aged 21 and under...
