Combe FF racer Gibaut heads to the States
British Formula Ford 1600 driver Michael Gibaut will test a Mazda MX-5 in America next year with Fall-line Motorsports in preparation for a switch to US racing.
Gibaut has raced in the Formula Ford Castle Combe Championship for the last couple of years, though this season he has had a limited participation – racing just once – having obtained a degree in motorsport management.
“I’ve always thought American racing is a bit more exciting, especially the street circuits,” said Gibaut. “The next season will be just testing in the MX-5 Cup. Maybe in 2018 we’ll do a full championship. Right now I have to get acclimatised and sort out sponsorship.
“We’ll be doing testing a bit and a few races in the MX-5 cup and then in 2018 we’ll probably make a full entry into MX-5, maybe looking at the Road to Indy too.
“We’ve been to America and there’s a lot more camaraderie within teams. I feel there are more sponsorship opportunities and you can get closer to sponsors and teams.”
