Shield wins 750MC’S Novice driver prize

M3 Cup driver Carl Shield has won the 750 Mo­tor Club’s John Miles Novice Driver Award for his per­for­mances in the new series this sea­son.

The an­nual award – which for 2016 was al­tered to re­ward the club’s stand-out rookie – in­cludes a £1000 do­na­tion from for­mer grand prix driver Miles, a fig­ure that will be matched by the 750 MC in credit to be de­ducted from Shield’s 2017 en­try fees.

Durham-based Shields, a for­mer mo­tocross and speed­way rider, was se­lected by Miles as the club’s most im­pres­sive rookie, af­ter he won at Snet­ter­ton and scored six fur­ther podi­ums.

Miles, who par­tic­i­pated in 15 F1 grands prix be­tween 1969-1970 for Team Lotus, will present the prize to Shield at the club’s Awards evening on Jan­uary 21.
