Onslow-cole eyes Bathurst 12 Hours drive
British Touring Car Championship race winner Tom Onslow-cole is targeting a drive in the Bathurst 12 Hours next year after testing a GT3 car on the Mount Panorama Circuit last week.
Onslow-cole has competed in GTS since leaving the BTCC at the end of 2013, and got the chance to drive the BMW M6 GT3 for the first time as he targets a deal with the Macsport team.
“I want to do the Bathurst 12 Hours, it’s been an iconic track for me from around eight-yearsold and the early Playstation games,” he said. “The team want to do it, I want to do it. [But] the deal is never that simple! The team are working and trying to get me over there to do the race.”
The track record is held by a GT3 car – set by Shane van Gisbergen in a Mclaren – and Onslow-cole said he was most impressed with the car’s aero.
“It was pretty awesome! The track is so quick through the mountain section and the aero of the GT car was incredible,” he added. “A GT3 car has the lap record around there, and it’s not surprising having driven it.”
The Brit is yet to announce his full-time plans for 2017, but is close to a deal to compete in a GT championship. Trips to the Nurburgring for VLN and the 24 Hours are also in the offing.
