Sims to race for BMW in American series
Spa 24 Hours winner Alexander Sims will join BMW’S factory assault on the IMSA Sportscar Championship next season.
The Briton – who competed in Blancpain GT Series in a BMW M6 GT3 and British GT with a Barwell Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan – will join former DTM champion Martin Tomczyk in switching to the American series in 2017.
Sims will share a BMW M6 GTLM with Bill Auberlen while Tomczyk will partner John Edwards.
BMW Motorsport boss Jens Marquardt said: “I’d like to thank Dirk Werner and Lucas Luhr for their hard work last season - and now it’s time to welcome Alexander Sims and Martin Tomczyk.
“I am convinced that they will both settle in very quickly at BMW Team RLL [Rahal] and will soon be successful.”
Meanwhile BRDC British Formula 3 runner-up Ricky Collard will drive the new BMW M4 GT4 in the Dubai 24 Hours next month as the car begins a development season.
