Sims to race for BMW in Amer­i­can se­ries

Spa 24 Hours win­ner Alexan­der Sims will join BMW’S fac­tory as­sault on the IMSA Sportscar Cham­pi­onship next sea­son.

The Bri­ton – who com­peted in Blanc­pain GT Se­ries in a BMW M6 GT3 and Bri­tish GT with a Bar­well Mo­tor­sport Lam­borgh­ini Hu­ra­can – will join for­mer DTM cham­pion Martin Tom­czyk in switch­ing to the Amer­i­can se­ries in 2017.

Sims will share a BMW M6 GTLM with Bill Au­berlen while Tom­czyk will part­ner John Edwards.

BMW Mo­tor­sport boss Jens Mar­quardt said: “I’d like to thank Dirk Werner and Lu­cas Luhr for their hard work last sea­son - and now it’s time to wel­come Alexan­der Sims and Martin Tom­czyk.

“I am con­vinced that they will both set­tle in very quickly at BMW Team RLL [Ra­hal] and will soon be suc­cess­ful.”

Mean­while BRDC Bri­tish For­mula 3 run­ner-up Ricky Col­lard will drive the new BMW M4 GT4 in the Dubai 24 Hours next month as the car be­gins a devel­op­ment sea­son.
