Steve Bannister has given up his prize drive in a four-wheel-drive car on the Jack Frost Stages after winning the ANECCC Stage Rally Championship.

The winner of the series receives the entry courtesy of series sponsor and regular national rally competitor, Steve Petch.

But in a move described as “one of the most magnanimous gestures I’ve encountered” by championship co-ordinator Colin Tombs, Bannister has decided to let second place man Ben Cree take the prize.

“Steve Bannister has very kindly decided to step aside and offered the prize drive opportunity to second placed driver, Ben Cree, from Thirsk. This fine gesture must not go unrecognised,” said Tombs.

Cree’s co-driver Andy Brown won the navigators’ championship and will again accompany Cree. In recent seasons Petch has offered his Group N Mitsubishi Lancer E9 but the car for this year is yet to be announced.
