Retson to step up to senior rallying after winning Scottish juniors
Scottish Junior Formula 1000 champion Finlay Retson won’t compete in the championship full time next year, as he looks to make the step into senior rallying.
Retson – who became the first Scot to win the championship in its four-year history – will look to debut on the Solway Coast rally next year when he turns 17, and could be in an R2 car ahead of a potential junior British championship assault.
“He could have another year in the Juniors. But he’s made his own decision halfway through this season that he wants to move on and try something else,” said Finlay’s father, Dave.
The youngster will look to compete in the juniors sporadically, partnered with British Rallycross outings to stay match fit.
“That takes us up to when he’s passed his driving test,” added Retson Sr. “We’ll look at a gravel car for later in 2017. We’re hoping the Solway Coast will be in his first senior rally and we’ll have a look at a Fiesta ST or maybe look further up at an R2 ahead of the BRC for 2018.”
