In all the fuss over Nico Rosberg winning his maiden world championship and then retiring from the sport, there is one thing that has been overlooked.
Jimmie Johnson took his seventh NASCAR Sprint Cup title – and he did it in the quickest time possible in just 15 seasons in the top flight.
The so-called experts said that Johnson could not win under the new knock-out system that NASCAR introduced, but he did. Johnson is a worthy champion, and can stand alongside the greats such as Richard Petty and the late Dale Earnhardt.
I just think it is a shame that NASCAR doesn’t get more mainstream coverage in the UK. It is a real spectacle. Garry Simpson, Via email
