Motor Sport News - - Track Test: A Harvester -

This is more of a moment of my life rather than just 2016.

When I got the email inviting me to test Ligier’s new LMP3 sportscar, I honestly thought it was a wind up. In fact, it was the culmination of many different friends around the paddock pulling many different strings.

To drive a car like that has been a long-held dream of mine, being one of those odd fellows who’s hooked on endurance racing, a form of racing that can be pretty Marmite to most.

I can’t lie, I was terrified on the day I got to drive with the United Autosports team at Snetterton, but as soon as I was buckled in and the engine fired up behind me, the nerves faded and sheer enjoyment took over.

Afterwards there’s just a sheer sense of privilege that I got a chance like that. Yes, it was p*ssing it down and I was on slicks. Yes, it was on the one freezing day we had in an otherwise decent summer. Yes, I was horrendously slow as I was paranoid about breaking it. Did I care? Not really. Just to experience that moment when you plant your foot and bang up the gears, with the noise, vibration and sheer rawness of it. It was magical.
