Unlike Nico Rosberg, Nick Padmore did not announce his retirement after winning a Formula One title in 2016.
The Surrey racer dominated the FIA Masters Historic F1 Championship with a perfect score. The modern sports-racing ace was a clear champion after a remarkable season at the wheel of an ex-carlos Reutemann Williams FW07C.
“I had 12 out of 12 wins in the Williams, which is just amazing,” he said. “WDK Motorsport prepared the car and it never missed a beat. I’ve been incredibly lucky to race a car like that. It was very surreal last year when I won the Pre ’78 category and went to the FIA awards evening. Bernie Ecclestone was on the next table and Lewis Hamilton was on the table beyond that.”
A year on, and it was Rosberg taking the big crown, but Padmore was there again as the Historic F1 champion.
Nick first really made his mark in the historic arena with some sensational drives at Goodwood and he’s one of those guys that can jump into anything and make it go fast. He’s starred in the F1 cars, a Lola T70 Spyder and a Chevron B19 as well as in Minis alongside his dad Keith.
