Hughes completes switch to European Formula 3 for 2017 with Hitech
British driver Jake Hughes will switch to the European Formula 3 Championship with Hitech GP for 2017 after a year in GP3.
Hughes, 22, scored two victories on his way to eighth overall in the GP3 standings this season but also made his European F3 debut, having decided to contest the final round of the season at Hockenheim with Carlin.
He also turned out with the team in Macau, finishing sixth in the Grand Prix final and best of the rookie contingent.
Hughes has since conducted testing overseas with Hitech alongside 2017 team-mates Ralf Aron – who has switched from Prema for 2017 – and Nikita Mazepin.
“I can’t wait for next season,” said Hughes. “I’ve loved every minute in the car during testing and get on so well with all of the guys in the team – we all work really well together.
“I have always rated F3 highly – you get a lot of track time and also the opportunity to put yourself in front of a lot of influential people.
“For me, even though it’ll be my first full season in FIA F3, and you never stop learning, I have a good feel for the car and how competitive we could be.”
