The event has produced some of the most dramatic and exciting events in the WRC’S history; you only have to think of Carlos Sainz throwing his helmet through his back window or Richard Burns sobbing at the stage-end at Margam Park to be taken in by the emotion.
Flat-out forest roads up there with the best in the world are on the menu; an earlier date has made sure the event isn’t quite as muddy, but the test hasn’t altered. In-fact, it’s even more changeable in terms of conditions in its October date.
The event is on for even more excitement this year with the introduction of the 2017-spec WRC rules.
Horsepower is up over the 400 mark for the first time since the Group B era, and the spoilers and diffusers are just as flashy. Couple that with a Brit in a Citroen that is almost certain to be a frontrunner, and a certain four-time champion Frenchman in a British-built car, and it should produce fireworks. Meeke vs Ogier. Britain and France v Britain and France. In 30 years’ time, you’ll want to say you’ve been there.
