Hunter switches to Ford Focus WRC for Cambrian as entries soar
Hugh Hunter will drive a 2002-specification Ford Focus WRC on the opening two rounds of the BTRDA season as he evaluates his plans.
The Welshman, who won the BTRDA Gold Star Championship in 2008, will pilot Paul Benn’s car, which he used to compete in the series last year, for the Cambrian and Malcolm Wilson rallies.
Last year, Hunter started the season in the BRC, and is likely to compete on the championship’s season opener again this year, although he’s unsure of whether he will continue in the championship or not.
“If I’m not going to do the BRC I’ll probably sell the Fiesta and stick with the Focus,” said Hunter. “The BRC is time and money. I don’t know if I have the money or the time to do it.”
British championship contenders Rhys Yates (Ford Fiesta R5) and the Skodas of Desi Henry and David Bogie are among the entrants.
As MN closed for press, the future of the Cambrian is still to be secured as it hasn’t yet signed a deal with Rally4wales for road repairs. A number of events are still working out deals with R4W after it emerged that some of the events would have to pay tax on road repairing fees ( MN, January 4), which is out of R4W’S hands.
