Smith seals factory Firman FF1600 National deal

-

Former Racing Steps driver Josh Smith will become a Ralph Firman factorysupported driver in 2017 and will compete in the BRSCC Formula Ford 1600 National Championship.

Smith competed in a handful of FF1600 events in 2016, and will now drive the Firman RF16 vacated by 2015 Walter Hayes Trophy winner Graham Carroll. Carroll suffered engine problems with the car last year, but Smith has his own engine. He’ll begin testing in the next few weeks.

“I’m going to be racing Formula Ford, I’ll be racing as a factory supported driver for Ralph Firman,” said Smith. “I’m really looking forward to it.

“I’ve got a lot of confidence in Ralph. I haven’t driven the car yet, we’ve got a fairly intensive testing programme coming up. We’ll get our head around the car and then attempt to hit the ground running.”

Luke Williams also drove a Firman car in 2016, challenging at the front of the BRSCC National Championship.
