Mcmanus and DMACK winner Armstrong to ST Trophy
Northern Irishman Jody Mcmanus is the latest driver to sign up to the second season of the Fiesta ST Trophy, with Drive DMACK Trophy event winner Jon Armstrong navigating.
Mcmanus has competed in two gravel events in his ST, both with Armstrong on the notes. He’s hoping to experience greater competition in the car.
“The ST Trophy is the only real competitive challenge for those cars, there’s nothing over here really for us to race,” said Mcmanus. “It will be good to go over and see what it’s all about.
“It’s been great to have Jon onboard. He’s one of my best friends, so it’s great to have him in. He has massive experience behind him so there’s a lot of trust there. If he says it’s flat, it’s flat!”
Armstrong competed in the DDFT World Rally Championship support series last year, winning in Poland and Spain. He has yet to firm up any 2017 plans (see story, right) but will co-drive for Mcmanus in the Trophy whenever his plans don’t clash.
“I’ve sat with Jody a couple of times, he and I are good friends,” said Armstrong. “He’s done two gravel rallies, he goes well and has good potential. He should go well in that championship.”
