Fred Field heads to Germany for the ADAC Rallye Cup in Opel Adam
Fred Field will compete in the German ADAC Rallye Cup with Schmack Motorsport in 2017.
The Mansfield driver made his rally debut in an Adam Cup car in the UK in 2016 – the same cars used in the ADAC Cup – debuting on the Ulster Rally before competing on the Rally Isle of Man.
The 22-year-old is hoping to find more competition abroad. Of the events he competed in during 2016, only the Manx had another Cup car to benchmark himself against.
“I’m very excited about it,” said Field. “It’s the German series so it’s proper, with Rally Germany in it too. Last year I was only against the same car once, so it’ll be a real level playing field out there to see where I’m at.”
Field has also expressed an interest in competing in the British Rally Championship. His father, Ashley – a Motorsport News Circuit Rally Championship winner – has just purchased a Vauxhall Adam R2 that he plans to rent out in the championship this year.
“I’d really like to do some BRC rounds, but it depends on a few factors,” added Fred Field. “Obviously, dad has just bought the R2 car so hopefully I can twist his arm into letting me use that!
“We still have the old Cup car, so maybe we can use that.”
