Rustad lauds continuity for Eurorx
Former FIA European Rallycross champion Tommy Rustad has been re-signed by British team Albatec Racing for another attack at the crown in 2017.
The ex-british Touring Car Championship Independents Trophy runner will drive a Peugeot 208 Supercar in the squad for the second year in a row.
Rustad won the Euro RX title in 2015 driving a Volkswagen Polo, but switched to Albatec for last season and won the final round of the series in Latvia. He finished fourth overall in the standings.
“I’m delighted to be staying with Albatec for 2017 in what promises to be a very exciting European series on some of the best rallycross tracks,” said Rustad, who will partner Finnish teenager Jere Kalliokoski in the team.
“The last round victory in Latvia last year showed that we are now in a strong position and I’m confident that now with a full season behind me we can start the year as a serious contender for the title. Continuity is very important; we’ve already built a very good, strong relationship across the entire team, and I’m pleased to be able to take that through into 2017.”
The European Championship runs at five rounds of FIA World Rallycross this year. Those events are in Spain, Norway, Sweden, France and Latvia.
