Pure class will always shine

The Monte Carlo Rally result was a fairytale for M-sport

Motor Sport News - - Sporting Scene -

There was something almost written in the stars about Sebastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia’s victory on last weekend’s Monte Carlo Rally.

From the moment the bombshell was dropped from VW, whoever got Ogier’s signature on a contract was going to have two things: firstly, huge pressure, and secondly, a driver at the top of their game.

The Frenchman barely had time to sit in the M-sport car. He barely had time to get the car doing the things he wanted, as he proved when he tottered straight on at a slow-speed, ice-covered hairpin. The team reacted, changed what it could and sent the four-time champion on his way to another win. There is a learning process here for both the driver and for the British crew too.

And that is the point: this is a partnership that is in its very embryonic stages. There is plenty more to come from both sides. Once they are both singing from the same songsheet, we can expect some very tuneful new music to be played throughout the World Rally Championship.
