Classic E-type sells for £5.8 million
One of just 12 lightweight Jaguar E-types ever built in the early 1960s sold for a record-breaking £5.8 million at a Bonhams auction in America last week.
The 10th of 12 cars built in period was shipped to Bob Jane in Australia when new in October 1963 and won the Australian GT Championship. Jane then shipped it back to Europe to race in the summer of 1964.
The E-type later went on show at Jane’s tyre depots and he finally sold it for $80,000 in 1980. After that it had only two more owners and has covered just 4000 miles. The car remains in very original condition and is complete with the fitted period factory engine.
