Swift champion Ovenden plots step up for 2017 BRX
Double Swift Sport Rallycross champion Tristan Ovenden will switch to the second-tier MSA Supernational class in the British Rallycross Championship this season, having acquired an ex-title winning Renault Clio V6.
Ovenden raced a modified Swift in the Super1600 category last year and finished second overall in the points, but 2017 will mark his first experience of rear-wheel drive in the ex-jamie Bird Clio.
“It’s very different from anything I’ve driven before so I’m hoping to do some testing before the first round at Croft,” said Ovenden.
“I’ve had a little go in it and I think it will be a challenge to get the most from, but that’s why it’s so cool! We will be doing the whole championship to give us a chance of a good result at the end of the season. Hopefully I’ll get comfortable with the car quickly and we can be fighting for podiums early on.”
