MN’S sister title Motorsport.com learned last week that FIA race director Charlie Whiting has issued a clampdown on trick new systems that aim to ‘preload’ a drivers’ starting procedure. Ferrari revealed a concept for a system in correspondence with the FIA, which was then rejected. It is unclear whether Ferrari was designing the system itself, or simply wanted to clarify the rules in public to prevent rivals using a similar one. Teams are forbidden to give drivers any help with starts, including finding the clutch bite point.
