Row erupts between COW and local MP
The Circuit of Wales has been plunged into an argument with a local MP after David Davies accused the circuit of making false claims.
The MP has challenged circuit owners to allow him to release a tape of a meeting between Michael Carrick, Martin Whitaker and Davies in which the latter says the owners made false claims about building a ‘BMW World’ on the Ebbw Vale site. BMW has since reportedly rejected this.
“This is the first time in nearly 18 years as an elected politician that I have made a secret recording of a meeting,” Davies told the Daily Post.
“I did so because frankly I did not trust the people I was meeting, and because they want the Welsh Government to underwrite their project by around £200m.”
Also speaking to the Daily Post, Mr Carrick’s solicitor Jonathan Coad said: “I share the astonishment of my clients that David Davies has apparently made a covert recording of a meeting which was expressly agreed to be confidential.
“This was a gross breach of trust by David Davies and an abuse of his position as an MP.”
