British F3 champion Leist heads to Indy Lights

BRDC British Formula 3 champion Matheus Leist will race in the Indy Lights series this year with Carlin.

Leist claimed the British F3 title with Double R Racing last year – ironically defeating Carlin driver Ricky Collard in a final-round showdown at Donington Park.

He had previously raced in MSA Formula with the squad, finishing fifth, before his run to the title – which was Double R’s first championship success in 10 years.

The Brazilian took part in the end-of-season GP3 Series tests at Abu Dhabi with ART, Arden and Trident, but has now completed a switch to Carlin – which last year helped Ed Jones to the Indy Lights title – to compete in the Indycar feeder series in 2017.

“I’m very excited to be joining Carlin in Indy Lights,” said Leist. “I had quite a few options open to me in 2017, but a combination of things made Indy Lights a great option for me.”
