Naylor and Lawrence back to BTRDA in NR4
BTRDA NR4 and Production Cup-winning duo Pat Naylor and Ian Lawrence will return for an attack on the categories after a year out of rallying.
Naylor and Lawrence sealed the two titles in 2015, before looking to sell their Mitsubishi Lancer E9. However, they elected to keep the car and return to the NR4 Class on the Cambrian this weekend.
“I’m looking forward to it,” said Naylor. “I was talking to Aaron Mcclure about it recently.
“We went testing for the first time ever last weekend. I was saying to him ‘I’m a bit concerned I may have forgotten what to do!’
“The car’s had a huge rebuild so we were testing it and the tyres to make sure everything is OK before the event.”
Naylor admitted to MN that he’d kept a close eye on how the championships played out last year and believes it will be a close battle for the title, which was won in 2016 by fellow Lancer duo Russ Thompson and Andy Murphy.
“We were following the competition last year,” added Naylor. “Andy Davies stepped up and was really competitive, Russ [Thompson] is fast and didn’t have it his own way, Aaron [Mcclure] was fast but had too many problems and Rich Hill is always quick. Sacha [Kakad] is getting faster and faster, it’s going to be the most competitive time we’ve been in for eight years or so.
“I spoke to Roland Llewellin and he said he may be back later in the year, and we don’t know whether to believe the rumours that Tom Naughton might return at some point. Blimey, if those two come back it will be ultra competitive! It just shows that the showroom class is a good one to be in.”
The class features 11 cars on the Cambrian Rally alone with more expected to join as the series progresses through the year.
