Carmichael targets Northern Irish glory
Alan Carmichael is aiming to derail Derek Mcgarrity’s winning streak in the Northern Ireland Rally Championship this year.
Carmichael will launch his bid for the title in a Mini John Cooper Works World Rally Car after securing funding to tackle all seven rounds.
Carmichael won the Northern Irish round on the Ulster Rally last year, his first in the series. His main threat will again will be Mcgarrity, while Connor Mccloskey – himself a winner of the series in 2008 – is also expected to feature strongly.
“This is the season I am really going to push,” said Carmichael. “I’ve wanted to win the championship for a long time and I’m not starting the season with the intention of finishing second again.
“Given everything that happened at the Ulster I proved to myself – and other people – that I have what it takes.”
