This weekend marks the second round of the World Rally Championship’s new era (see live WRC) but before that gets underway there’s a chance to remember last year’s Rally Sweden.
Back in the days where the cars were slower and Volkswagen ruled the series, it was a certain Frenchman who triumphed in 2016. But that Frenchman – Sebastien Ogier, in case you hadn’t guessed – argued that the rally shouldn’t have gone ahead with concerns over a lack of snow. To relive all the action from last year’s edition of the Swedish contest tune in tonight (Wednesday, 19252030hrs, Motors TV).
With the European racing season yet to begin, to get your current motorsport fix you need to look to Asia and Australasia. Motors TV has highlights of the recent third instalment of this year’s Toyota Racing Series contest from Hampton Downs. Featuring a host of up-and-coming drivers from Europe and beyond, the New Zealan-based series makes fascinating viewing (Saturday, 1545-1650hrs).
For sportscar fans there’s a double bill of Asian endurance races this weekend. First up is the finale of the Asian Le Mans Series coming from the Sepang circuit (Saturday, 1855-2000hrs, Motors TV). That’s followed on Sunday by all the action from the opening 24H Series event: the Dubai 24 Hours (2030-2130hrs, Motors TV).
