BMW’S factory GT attack to feature top Britons
British racers Alex Lynn and Tom Onlsow-cole will both join BMW’S factory GT programme for this year’s Nurburgring 24 Hours.
Former Williams F1 test driver Lynn, 23, contested three rounds of the World Endurance Championship with the Manor LMP2 team last year. He tested a DTM machine with BMW back in 2014 as part of the brand’s young driver tests.
Onslow-cole has become a GT regular in recent years, having graduated from British Touring Cars into British and European GTS.
The pair form part of BMW’S 20-strong factory driver roster for the May 27/28 event. The drivers will be divided into multiple M6 GT3S run by the Schnitzer, Schubert and Rowe teams. Alexander Sims, Richard Westbrook and Tom Blomqvist are also among the BMW entry.
Onslow-cole said: “I drove the M6 GT3 at Bathurst and it was incredible. The high-speed stability and drivability made it very welcoming. I won my first BTCC race at the wheel of a BMW [in 2007], so to join the factory GT team 10 years later is pretty special.”
Onslow-cole also last week confirmed an International GT Open campaign with the SPS Automotive Performance Mercedes AMG GT3 team. He will share his car with Valentin Pierburg.
