Speedworks confirms Butel for LMP3 Cup
Speedworks Motorsport will enter this year’s Uk-based LMP3 Cup Championship after signing single-seater convert Jack Butel as its first driver.
The British Touring Car squad will expand into prototype racing this year after buying a Ligier JS P3. Butel is the first driver confirmed for Speedworks’ assault on the new UK LMP3 category, and the team is also planning entries in European prototype races.
Butel graduates to LMP3 after two years in FIA British Formula 4. His team-mate has yet to be confirmed.
“Single-seaters weren’t working out for me and my ultimate ambition has always been to race at Le Mans, so when this deal came along it was too good to turn down,” said Butel, 20 from Jersey.
“The step from F4 to LMP3 is big. When I first tested the Ligier it had a load more power but it was the aero change that was the biggest thing to adapt to. This will be a learning year for both myself and the team as we’re both new to this form of racing and we both have to learn how the car works.”
