Ostberg: Onebet Jipocar can fight for wins
Mads Ostberg is confident his privately-run Onebet Jipocar World Rally Team will be able to challenge for World Rally Championship wins this season, despite a disappointing start to the campaign in Sweden last week.
After missing Monte Carlo, there had been high hopes of a sixth Rally Sweden podium in seven years for the Norwegian on his debut in a 2017 Ford Fiesta WRC.
“We had hoped to get the car two weeks before the start,” he said. “But in the end we got it on Friday and had just two days to test. I didn’t use the centre differential. We just locked it because we didn’t have time to work out the settings. I am disappointed and we need to turn this around and be positive. When we get everything in order we will be in the position [to challenge for wins].”
Ostberg will miss the next round of the WRC in Mexico – his wife is expecting their first child – but he will be back for the Tour of Corsica in April.
“We need to do a lot of testing before then,” he admitted.
The highlight of Ostberg’s Rally Sweden was his 44
metre leap at Colin’s Crest. He jumped the furthest on the Vargasen jump, but just missed equaling the record by one metre.
