Peugeot returns to ERC with Spaniards Suarez and Lopez
Peugeot will return to the European Rally Championship with two of its 208 T16 R5 cars for Jose Suarez and Pepe Lopez.
The ERC came under criticism last year for lacking manufacturer entries with the likes of Skoda Motorsport switching to WRC2. But Peugeot switches in the other direction, joining the ERC from WRC2.
Bruno Famin, Peugeot Sport director, said: “We are extremely pleased with our association with Eurosport and delighted to confirm that the Peugeot Rally Academy’s programme in 2017 will focus on the ERC. We will be running cars for two particularly promising young Spaniards, José Suarez and Pepe Lopez.”
Lopez impressed on Wales Rally GB last year, setting times comparable to British Junior Rally champion Rob Duggan. He won WRC3 on the event.
Suarez competed on seven rounds of the WRC last year, with a best finish of sixth in WRC2 in Monte Carlo.
