Ingram back to ERC with works Opel squad
Chris Ingram will return to the European Rally Championship with the works Opel squad for 2017.
Ingram – who had been considering switching to an R5 in the British Rally Championship – finished second in the championship with the team last year. He won the ERC 3 category championship for two-wheel-drive cars.
“I think it’s what I needed to do,” said the 22-year-old of his return to the team. “Last year I matured so much as a driver thanks to their backing and learning from such a professional team that it should be the year.
“I know the car well now, it would have been nice to have had Ypres and Ireland again as I think I would have done well there, but Rome and Canaries sound good, they’re new challenges.”
The Manchester driver has targeted nothing short of winning the title and has been touted as the favourite.
“The plan is to win and then to go for the European title next year,” he added. “We’ll try and get some R5 testing during the year and just get everything lined up for that. That’s the big ambition and that’s why Andrews is backing me.”
Ingram will be joined by Finn Jari Huttunen, who won the drive as ADAC Opel Rallye Cup champion in 2016, and Italian Tamara Molinaro.
