Macdonald gets unique Fiesta R5 for SRC
Reigning Snowman winner Donnie Macdonald will debut a Ford Fiesta R5 on this year’s event, the first car built in conjunction with M-sport in right-hand-drive specification.
The Aberdeen driver competed in a B13-spec Mitsubishi Lancer E9 last year, and will use that car again on the asphalt rounds of the BRC. He’ll use the Fiesta on the Scottish Rally Championship events, two of which share with the BRC, the Border Counties and the RSAC Scottish Rally.
“That’s the plan as it stands, the Fiesta can’t be used against the BRC 1 cars as it’s right-hand-drive, but it’s a proper R5,” explained Macdonald. “It’s not like a proto car from abroad, Dom [Buckley] has converted it with the help of M-sport.
“I’ll be doing the Borders [Border Counties] and the Scottish so I’ll be doing the two championships. I’ve done quite a lot of work to the Evo through last year. I plan to put it in Tarmacspec and leave it that way and do Ypres, Ireland, the Manx etc. There’s probably five good Tarmac rallies to be had there.”
He finished second in the BRC National category to Robert Blomberg, and will be able to score points in the championship in the Fiesta or Lancer E9.
