Rising star Kevin Eriksson switches to MJP Racing Team for 2017 World RX
World RX event winner Kevin Eriksson will switch from his father Andreas’s Olsbergsmse team to the MJP Racing Team Austria squad for 2017.
He will partner former double DTM champion Timo Scheider. Eriksson claimed his first victory at the penultimate round of the series last year in Germany after pulling off an impressive firstcorner move around the outside of the entire field in the final, when racing a Ford Fiesta Supercar.
He will also race a Fiesta this season, but the MJP Racing cars are significantly different under the skin from the OMSE machines, including the implementation of a transversely mounted engine.
“I am very excited to join the team to be able to compete in the full 2017 season,” said Eriksson. “Driving alongside Timo Scheider makes me feel fantastic. I saw what they have done with their new 2017 Ford Fiesta RXS and it will be amazing to drive this machine.”
World Rallycross teams’ champion EKS has also confirmed its driver line-up, with Mattias Ekstrom’s 2016 team-mate Toomas Heikkinen remaining with the squad.
“Never change a winning team,” said Ekstrom. “I’m happy about tackling the title defence project with Topi [Toomas]. He’s a young but very experienced race driver who’s a perfect fit for our team.”
