Davies and Williams beat late power drama
After setting fastest time on the first five stages, alarm bells rang for Dylan Davies/llion Williams as their Subaru Impreza lapsed onto two cylinders on the final stage of the day.
Despite the resulting misfire, they nursed the car home to a deserved 24-second victory.
Initially, Richard Hill/steffan Evans were Davies’ nearest challengers, sharing fastest time on SS1 and setting second fastest times on the next two tests before losing time in Caeo.
An off-colour Martyn England made a sluggish start in his Ford Fiesta R5+, but he and wife Dawn upped their pace in the afternoon, with fastest time on the final stage helping them overtake Hill for the runner-up spot.
Andy Davies and Dale Bowen (who won their class on the previous evening’s Bro Caron Road Rally) had a steady run by Davies’ usual standards to finish fourth in their Subaru Impreza, and they were followed home by Wug Utting/bob Stokoe, who enjoyed the quality of the stages in their similar car.
The trip from Ireland proved worthwhile for William Creighton/liam Regan, who enjoyed a day’s testing for their forthcoming British championship campaign, the pair making their first visit to these stages and winning their class in their Peugeot 208 R2.
Mark Christopher/kevin Watkins won the Gwynnespeed Challenge as the only championship entrants.
