MONSTERS SET TO ROAR AT RETRO

Over 80 cars set to run during biggest-ever live show stage

- By Paul Lawrence

With over 80 cars from across 50 years of rallying, this year’s live action rally stage will be the biggest ever run at Race Retro.

With two longer than usual stage sessions on both Saturday and Sunday, there will be around eight hours of non-stop action during the show. Topping the bill will be rally legends Ari Vatanen and Markku Alen.

Alen will drive on Saturday and is expected to handle a BMW M3 and a Subaru Legacy, while Vatanen will be on hand for both days to drive the M3 and Legacy as well as a Rothmans-liveried Escort Mk2. The stage sessions run from 1030hrs to 1300hrs and from 1430hrs to 1600hrs on each day.

At the heart of the action will be cars from the Rallying with Group B movement and MG Metro 6R4s, Ford RS200S and Audi quattros along with the Peugeot 205 T16 of Terry Pankhurst will recall the height of Group B in the mid-1980s.

However, cars from the 1960s to the modern will pack out the field, with a contemporary Ford Fiesta R5 contrasting to Mini Coopers and Ford Escort Mk1s. An ex-carlos Sainz Ford Focus WRC and young ace Chris Ingram in the ex-russell Brookes Opel Manta 400 will be other highlights.

One of the absolute stars will be former British champion Dai Llewellin in the Subaru Impreza owned and also driven by Ryan Champion. Llewellin has been the star of the show in recent years with his flamboyant driving style on the narrow asphalt stage. Ex-brookes Opel Manta will be in action
