Over 80 cars set to run dur­ing big­gest-ever live show stage

With over 80 cars from across 50 years of ral­ly­ing, this year’s live ac­tion rally stage will be the big­gest ever run at Race Retro.

With two longer than usual stage ses­sions on both Satur­day and Sun­day, there will be around eight hours of non-stop ac­tion dur­ing the show. Top­ping the bill will be rally le­gends Ari Vata­nen and Markku Alen.

Alen will drive on Satur­day and is ex­pected to han­dle a BMW M3 and a Subaru Legacy, while Vata­nen will be on hand for both days to drive the M3 and Legacy as well as a Roth­mans-liv­er­ied Es­cort Mk2. The stage ses­sions run from 1030hrs to 1300hrs and from 1430hrs to 1600hrs on each day.

At the heart of the ac­tion will be cars from the Ral­ly­ing with Group B move­ment and MG Metro 6R4s, Ford RS200S and Audi quat­tros along with the Peu­geot 205 T16 of Terry Pankhurst will re­call the height of Group B in the mid-1980s.

How­ever, cars from the 1960s to the mod­ern will pack out the field, with a con­tem­po­rary Ford Fi­esta R5 con­trast­ing to Mini Coop­ers and Ford Es­cort Mk1s. An ex-car­los Sainz Ford Fo­cus WRC and young ace Chris In­gram in the ex-rus­sell Brookes Opel Manta 400 will be other high­lights.

One of the ab­so­lute stars will be for­mer Bri­tish cham­pion Dai Llewellin in the Subaru Impreza owned and also driven by Ryan Cham­pion. Llewellin has been the star of the show in re­cent years with his flam­boy­ant driv­ing style on the nar­row as­phalt stage. Ex-brookes Opel Manta will be in ac­tion
