Wilks secures fulltime WRX seat in VW
While Jordan’s Lydden Hill appearance will be a one-off with the MJP Racing squad, double British Rally Champion Guy Wilks will campaign a privatelyrun Volkswagen Polo Supercar full-time in the FIA World Rallycross Championship this season ( see page 28).
The British driver will race an ex-volkswagen RX Sweden car used by Johan Kristoffersson to win the French round of World RX at Loheac last season, and also finish second in the championship. “This has been a long time coming, I’ve been waiting for a good opportunity to do a full World Championship for so long,” said Wilks. “The Polo is definitely the most complete package. You only have to look at the amount of finals it made it to last year.” Wilks made his rallycross debut at Lydden Hill in 2015 in a JRM Mini RX and finished sixth. Solid pace in four subsequent outings was thwarted by technical troubles. Wilks will compete under the Loco World RX Team banner. “We have to be aiming to make semi-finals every single time. After that, anything can happen,” Wilks added.
