A great week for UK success
Brits are making the headlines across the motorsport world
There was nothing but widespread joy at Kris Meeke’s victory on Rally Spain last weekend, but it wasn’t just the success that made the Citroen man the star of the event, it was the way that he clinched the win. This was not inherited, but this was earned. It was a really excellent performance, and it should hopefully boost Wales Rally GB ticket sales even further.
On the other side of the world, Lewis Hamilton took a giant leap towards clinching his fourth world title with glory at Suzuka. It would not just be another crown for the Mercedes man, it would be a history-making benchmark. No other Brit has won four F1 world titles. We are in the middle of a phenomenal period and it should be judged as that.
Then there is Chris Ingram too, who sealed the Under 27s division of the European Rally Championship in Latvia with a dramatic triumph. He has now scooped a £90,000 prize pot and it will certainly help him to continue his career trajectory.
It not often that there is a week where there a reason to wave the Union flag with a little more vigour, but this is one. Matt James, Editor
