Clare beats the hordes in the Vin­tage Sports-car Club’s speed cham­pi­onship

Gary Clare, com­pet­ing in the one-off Gran­nie Spe­cial from 1928, has been con­firmed as over­all win­ner of the Vin­tage Sports-car Club’s hugely suc­cess­ful speed cham­pi­onship.

Across a sea­son of sprints and hill­climbs, Clare scored in eight of the nine rounds and was a clear cham­pion. He capped his cam­paign with the best vin­tage time at Lo­ton Park in Septem­ber.

Jo Blak­eney- Ed­wards, wife of pro­lific his­toric racer Pa­trick, fin­ished over­all run­nerup in her 1929 Frazer Nash Su­per Sports while out-go­ing cham­pion David Fur­nell (1930 Austin 7) com­pleted the top three.

Peter Batty (Frazer Nash) won the Young Driver Award for those un­der 30 and James T Roberts (1917 Vaux­hall 30-98) won the Novice Award in his first sea­son of com­pe­ti­tion.
