This new cabin RIB from the Italian manufacturer ZAR caught our eye partly due to its arresting colour scheme (the show boat had a grey hull and tubes with contrasting tan seats) but mainly because it looked like a really useable overnighter.

With its sociable L-shaped seating and table next to a generous wet bar, this is one of those RIBS that is just as enjoyable to use at anchor as it is when underway. The SL stands for Sport Luxury and an extra wrap of seating around the bow ensures you can load it up with guests for day trips or make it up into a sunpad, thanks to its adjustable backrests, when there’s just a couple of you on board. There’s even a pull-up bimini cover tucked away under the rear seats.

The cuddy cabin under the centre console is predictably small with a toilet under the bed rather than in a separate compartment, but it does make overnighting a viable option.

We have yet to test a ZAR out on the water but a decent looking hull with a fairly deep vee, big tubes and a decent amount of freeboard should give a dry, stable ride while single or twin outboard engines ensure there’s no shortage of performance on offer. If you’re looking for a fast, fun day boat with occasional overnighting potential, it makes a lot of sense.

The tall bow and big tubes should ensure a dry ride

L-shaped aft seating and a generous wet bar make for a sociable day out on the water
