This beautiful little 250cc Montesa was bought new – in the formof a kit – in 1968 by its current owner. The model in question is American, distinguishable by its wider blocktread tyres, wider mudguards, folding footrests and crinkle-finished headlamp, among other characteristics. The colour scheme is a giveaway too – European Impalas are typically finished in blue or red.
The story behind the bike is as intriguing as its appearance. Mike had previously sold it, before it subsequently changed hands several times. It also accomplished some commendable feats in that time, including a ride in the Rally Internacional Colombres. In 2010, Mike and the Montesa were reunited and he began the arduous process of returning it to the glorious state it’s in today. A great deal of time has been spent polishing the aluminium components, which really make it stand out on display. A top-notch effort.
