£349.99­ A cowhide leather suit with a polyester mesh lin­ing for un­der £350. Ny­lon stretch pan­els are in­te­grated for ease of move­ment and CE Ap­proved level 1 pro­tec­tors are in­cluded at the el­bows, shoul­ders, knees and back pro­tec­tor.

There’s safety stitch­ing in high risk zones, re­place­ment knee slid­ers, ex­tra hard shoul­der pro­tec­tion on the out­side and per­fo­rated leather zones for air flow. Not for­get­ting the rac­ing hump for that real ‘racer’ look and feel.

Ox­ford RP-1

£499.99 www.ox­ The RP-1 suit is made from full grain cowhide and has a re­mov­able mesh liner.

It has per­fo­rated leather for ven­ti­la­tion and CE ar­mour on the el­bows, knees and shoul­ders and pock­ets for a back pro­tec­tor, chest and hip pro­tec­tors. Pad­ding is also built into the coc­cyx area.

Stretch pan­els are placed through­out, with re­in­forced con­certina leather in im­pact ar­eas, neo­prene at the neck and Aramid-re­in­forced stretch ma­te­rial in the non-im­pact ar­eas. It comes with a two-year guar­an­tee.

Held Slade

£899.99 Tie my kan­ga­roo leather suit down sport. Made from 40% kan­ga­roo leather and 60% cowhide and with stretch leather pan­els at the knees, back and shoul­ders, the Slade suit is new from Ger­man cloth­ing man­u­fac­turer Held. There’s all the usual stuff – breath­able mesh lin­ing, race hump, knee slid­ers, dou­ble stitch­ing on crit­i­cal seams and CE ap­proved ar­mour at the knee, shoul­ders and el­bows – but there’s a bonus too. This suit is also avail­able as part of Held’s ‘Made to Mea­sure’ ser­vice and has ti­ta­nium pro­tec­tors on the shoul­ders, el­bows and knees.

Spada Curve £399.95 www.spada­cloth­ The Spada Curve suit is made from full grain drum dyed 1.2-1.4mm cowhide and has per­fo­rated pan­els to keep you cool. CE ap­proved ar­mour adorns the shoul­ders, el­bows and knees.

There’s a race col­lar with neo­prene for added com­fort, an aero­dy­namic race hump, Air­tex lin­ing, elas­ti­cated stretch pan­els and dou­ble and triple-stitched crit­i­cal seams.

The in­ner col­lar, cuffs and an­kles are lined with soft fleece for com­fort and there’s a two-way main zip.

Avail­able in black, sil­ver and white; black, red and white and black, blue and white and sizes 38-48.

Fury­gan Dark Apex

£599.99­ Avail­able in black and white colour op­tions and made from full grain 1.4mm leather with aramid fi­bre re­in­force­ment at the hips and on the seat.

There’s D30 ar­mour on the shoul­ders, el­bows and knees and the shoul­ders and el­bows have ther­mo­formed ex­ter­nal shells with alu­minium in­serts.

It gets per­fo­rated pan­els, in­te­gral rac­ing sleeves, neo­prene in­serts on the col­lar and wrists, a breath­able and hy­poal­ler­genic cot­ton lin­ing, re­mov­able knee slid­ers and a re­mov­able back hump.

Avail­able in sizes 46-58 and rac­ing un­der­wear is avail­able.

Alpinestars GP Tech leather suit

com £1599.99 Made from cow and kan­ga­roo, the GP Tech leather suit is the crème da la crème of Alpinestars suits for rac­ing.

It gets re­in­forced stitch­ing and there’s CE ap­proved ar­mour on the el­bows, shoul­ders, knees and tib­ias. Alpinestars has de­vel­oped ‘Dy­namic Fric­tion Shield’ ex­ter­nal shoul­der, el­bow and knee slid­ers too.

There are per­fo­ra­tions through­out the suit for air­flow, pock­ets for chest pro­tec­tion and a snap con­nec­tion sys­tem for a back pro­tec­tor too. Stretch pan­els are strate­gi­cally po­si­tioned un­der the arms, shoul­ders, crotch and thigh ar­eas and it has a wash­able and re­mov­able in­ner mesh liner.

RST Tractech Evo II

£449.99 RST has added a num­ber of new colour choices and im­proved the spec on its Tractech Evo suit for 2015. It’s made from 1.1-1.3mm cowhide leather and fea­tures dou­ble and triple-stitched seams in places at risk of rip­ping in the event of an ac­ci­dent.

There are slid­ers on the knees and shoul­ders and the suit comes with CE ap­proved ar­mour at the el­bows, knees, shoul­ders and con­tains a CE Level 1 back pro­tec­tor as stan­dard.

Of course, there is a race hump – which not only helps with aero­dy­nam­ics but also helps pro­tect your neck in a crash.

Avail­able in size 40-54 and in black, white, blue, red, green, fluro green and fluro red.

Dainese Rac­ing

£599.99 The Rac­ing suit is made from cowhide leather and has CE ap­proved ar­mour at the el­bows, shoul­ders, hips and knees. The aptly-named suit fea­tures re­place­able knee slid­ers, race hump and fea­tures elas­ti­cated fab­ric un­der the arms, backs of the knees and crotch area so you can move easily.

Avail­able in sizes 44-64 in lots of colours – white, red and black, black, green and white.
