The Bonhams Autumn Stafford Sale, Saturday and Sunday, October 17-18, Sandylands Centre
A consignment of 60 predominantly American motorcycles will go under the hammer in a special event taking place on Saturday, October 17. Stored in an astonishing private museum, the prized collection celebrates American marques from across pivotal points in motorcycle manufacturing history. Highlights include a 1910 Pierce 688cc four, and a 1930 Indian 1265cc Model 402 four-cylinder combination. The examples are expected to fetch £60,000-£80,000 and £40,000£50,000 respectively.
Part of the main sale on Sunday, October 18, several of the most desirable Brough Superiors ever produced will go under the hammer – part of collection from Australia. Star lots include a dismantled 1926 Brough Superior 980cc SS100 Alpine Grand Sport (pictured) estimated at £120,000£160,000, and a 1936 Earls Court Motorcycle Show Brough Superior 990cc SS100, expected to fetch £210,000£240,000. At last year’s Autumn Stafford sale, one Sebastian Vettel turned up to bid on a few lots. Another racing great will be involved at October’s event, but, unfortunately for his legion of fans, not quite the real thing! A life-size cut-out of Valentino Rossi, signed by the man himself, will be auctioned to raise funds for charity.
