Urban Glow RideStar
RRP: £65.95// Tested by: Peter Henshaw
The Urban Glow has been around a few years now, and it’s a great idea – a black mesh waistcoat with hi-vis strips to wear over your normal jacket. It somehow manages to look cooler than any other hi-vis solution – so cool, that apparently even Ewan McGregor has one – and has been a hit with cyclists and horse riders as well as bikers.
The latest variation on the theme is the RideStar, which is basically the same as the original TriStar vest but with sleeves carrying extra hi-vis. It’s based on the same black mesh which zips up the front and has two zipped cordura pockets for keeping odds and ends in. Just like the TriStar the hi-vis is available in Lime, Silver or Electric Pink, all of which do the reflective thing at night.
It’s slightly more cumbersome and bulky than the TriStar I used to use, partly inevitable with arms, partly because I’ve got the XL, which is probably a size too big for me. But the extra vis on your arms is welcome and I feel a lot more visible when wearing it. Also nice to know that the RideStar is Made in England – there’s not much motorcycle kit which can claim that any more.
