It’s amazing how quickly you get used to technology — the moment you jump from the Ducati and BMW to the Yamaha you miss not having an autoblipper and it feels clumsy using the clutch on the downshift. But the electronics are impressive and will hold a slide and a hovering wheelie at full throttle.
The racy chassis and smooth engine character let you carry lots of corner speed and lean. It’s the fastest around the long horseshoe right, two thirds into the lap. The brakes don’t have the tactile bite of the top two machines, but they do a good job of bringing 154.5mph of R1 down to an almost stop for turn one.
