Changing of the guard
Kawasaki’s new ZX-10R has superb rider aids, a plush ride and an easy-to-manage motor, but it’s still not special enough to beat its rivals. The BMW is still hugely competent, has a bonkers engine and lots of rider refinements, but isn’t as polished as the newer competition. Last year’s winner, the R1 still impresses, but after living with it for a year, it’s too track focused and uncomfortable for the road, so drops down the order. But the Ducati takes the overall win, thanks to its track speed, road poise and superb electronics. If it wasn’t for the Aprilia's slipping clutch there’s no doubt it would’ve challenged for victory, but it couldn’t complete our test.
