The ultimate test of tyres

Motorcycle News (UK) - - Mcn sport -

Although Metzeler have shod the winning bikes at the TT and the other international road meetings, the Italian company has failed to break Dunlop’s stranglehold on the two biggest races, the Superbike and Senior TTS.

Cameron Donald’s 2008 Superbike TT victory on Pirellis was the last time Dunlop lost a Mountain course six-lapper. It was also the last time the TAS team won one of the principal TT races.

Does Hutchy see this as a bad omen?

“I want to win and if I thought I couldn’t win on Metzelers I wouldn’t be on them,” is his instant retort.

“Last year I was told that the Dunlop Superstock tyre was going to absolutely annihilate every other make and I won the Superstock TT. I also broke the lap record on a Superstock Metzeler at the North West. That’s the treaded tyre but I think the Superbike tyre is pretty close to being a match for the Dunlop tyre now.”
